Not Ace fic, how strange.

Title: The Price of Freedom
Character: Boa Hancock, mentions of Sandersonia and Marigold
Rating: G

So, a fascinating discussion on Boa Hancock here made me think about our favourite manipulative, kitten-kicking Empress ♥. And when I start thinking about things/people in One Piece I write fic (go figure). Hence this thing.

The Price of Freedom

Sometimes, you feel lonely.

You don’t really have anyone to talk to.

You have Sonia and Mari, and you have had each other for all your lives. But you remember – from that lifetime ago when you were young and innocent and free – that there is something different about talking to a friend.

An equal. When was the last time you told someone something that was not an order, a direction, when you were not addressing them as Empress of Kuja?

Who were you, before you were Empress of Kuja, Royal Shichibukai Boa Hancock? Before--

Who might you have been?

And would there have been friends?

But you can’t afford these thoughts. You can’t afford to drop your guard or your mask – to be anything less than absolutely vigilant.

All you need are your sisters. All you need is your freedom.

You are an idol: distant, revered, safe on your pedestal.

When all other people do is hurt, it is far better to be alone.

~~

Why do I write so much angst =_= Erk.

Also, this used to be called Pedestal, but I thought The Price of Freedom might be more true to the fic. Thoughts?

You write so much angst because you write it so well! ♥

This is an interesting look at Hancock. I love how she totally avoids thinking about the uncomfortable part of her past - there's the "a lifetime ago" and then there's now, and now she's free, and it's worth it...

I think Pedestal would have worked perfectly as a title as well, but either is fine?

Ooo... I liked this. Even though I'm utterly clueless about One Piece, I really liked the way it was written ^^

(Every time I see your name pop up in my f-list I make happy little noises and promise to quickly start reading teh manga so that I can read ye fics but this time curiosity got the better of me ^^)

Ahaha - hello! Glad you liked it! ^^

you should read it, it is happiness and love and there is almost NO ANGST! &hearts Also, it is cracky beyond belief XP)

But angst is fuuuun~ XD

An equal. When was the last time you told someone something that was not an order, a direction, when you were not addressing them as Empress of Kuja? I like the insight here - I'm sure it must be a lonely position to have.

But but - not angst is happier!

^^; I just find it ironic that I don't overly enjoy reading angsty fic and yet I keep writing it.

It must be a terribly lonely position - both as a leader and also with her secret :(

*would hug her if I didn't think she'd eat me*

True, true! XD And I'm the opposite - I like reading it, but not so much writing it. Hrm.

...She probably would eat you. >> Cute, but vicious!

thank you

BTW, I wasn't sure if I was going to mention it or not, but... The middle Boa sister? It's not like her name is written with alphabetical letters anywhere, so this is just my guess, but I think her name is supposed to be "Thundersonia"! It's written exactly the same in Japanese, but "Thunder" makes more sense in my mind than "Sander" in this case?

Except that Sandersonia is a flower. (I know, I was all WFT when I first read her name, but then [livejournal.com profile] naye pointed out that all/most of the women on Amazon Lily had flower names and I looked it up and sure enough ^^;)

Ahhhh! I didn't know that! Then it makes sense, I guess. (Sorry for confusing you - but now I learned something!)

Haha, lol, I get a bit frustrated with that question too, but this one was about Medusa and the male gaze and I couldn't resist

Had a lovely chat back and forth with the poster and I figured out exactly why Amazon Lily didn't offend me ^^ AND I got a wonderful awesome movie rec. So it was good XP

I do love Boa. And she's such a tragic figure, at the same time as she's made of awesome and badass &hearts

(^^ I think I will probably stick with the title as is, since people seem to like it)

come write fic at [livejournal.com profile] onepiece_300!
