I had the oddest feeling after the chapter, I mean besides the squeeing and the massive gleeing over SHANKS IS BACK!!! and such. It's the end. The war at Marineford that is. Coby's words jolted everyone back to their senses, so now that Shanks is here in full force, it's time for Luffy to get to safety and heal. I don't know how. I wonder if Shanks will actually get to see his little Anchor face-to-face and hand the hat back to him, jolting him back to his cheerful and determined self. I certainly hope so! Luffy is still in that state with the same expression and he's...just an object now that everyone's either trying to destroy or protect and it's wrong! Luffy's always been an active force, choosing his own destiny and now that he's failed someone for the first time... Sorry, I know I should be happy now that Shanks is finally finally back, but Luffy... ;_;

Well on a brighter note, Coby's shown how much he's grown from that scared boy that finally had the guts to go against Alvida and join the Marines! I'm so proud of the little pink-haired Marine brat! *ruffles hair* You did good, kid! I see you as a powerful mover in the future! Shanks said it, and even Blackbeard paused to listen!

The voice he heard...I think it's Luffy's spirit. The thing that's kept him going all this time, trying to become strong so he can match up to the incredible pirate that inspired him. Now that Luffy's broken down, both physically and spiritually, Coby can't feel his spirit anymore. That's just my theory! :)

Shanks said "Well done, young marine," which has a rather different tone. For one, it's much more respectful. And then there was more, but I'm sure the scanlators made a good job of it, even if they are making Shanks sound like he did back in Fuusha, instead of rather formal.

Hahaha, "OMG#&# *hearts*hearts* *flailing'" is the universal reaction to this chapter.. and the word epic... I couldn't overuse the word epic in my post-reaction to chap 579. xD

Coby owned the world in those few seconds, but he owned them goooooooddd!!! I wonder who that voice was... What Coby has is most probably Mantra as explaned and shown somewhere before in the manga... Very few people have it. <3

I almost forgot Luffy during all of this... I seriously am waiting for some magic, Mister Trafalgar Law. ;___;

Although, I think there may be a problem with the translation... I haven't read the scanlation, but in the original, Coby says:

"The voices in my head... are disappearing... one by one..."

So he's definitely talking about people on the battlefield in general, not a particular person.

In response to some of the other comments here, I don't think this is hope that Ace is alive - but there's always the point of no one keeping track of Ace's body. I feel that is extremely significant. ESPECIALLY SINCE I DON'T WANT MERAMERA BLACKBEARD, HOLY FUCK, so I've been looking for Ace's body...

Also, keep in mind that the "doctor" that has Luffy is LAW, so maybe Law'll graft some part of Ace's body onto Luffy to help him recover. :x

Coby hears voices that disappears when people die on the battlefield. That's exactly the same ability that Aisa had on Skypiea. Coby just discovered that he can use Mantra! (I can't believe I'm the only one who noticed this?)

Shanks is late. I wish he could have been there sooner... But better late than never, and I seriously didn't expect him to arrive at all! And his entrance was made of glee.

HE PICKED UP THE HAT. One of Luffy's goals, except for becoming the Pirate King, was to return that hat to Shanks. It's returned now! ^^ Except I expect Shanks to return it to Luffy instead, and that's going to be made of WIN.

Did you notice that Beckman threatened Kizaru with a gun? I'm assuming this means that Beckman has enough haki himself to hurt logia users with pistol bullets (the Amazon Lilies put haki into their arrows, so yes!).

Oda's story is the best I have ever read, and moments like all of these is why.

So in this whole arc, two of the most important things we've learned has been:

GENDER IS A CHOICE

and now STAND UP AND SPEAK UP AGAINST THINGS THAT ARE WRONG, even if you are the only one, and weak, and nobody else does.

These are pretty damn awesome messages.

Just like Shanks, and Coby, who are BIG DAMN HEROES. SUCH BIG DAMN HEROES.

I cannot get over this chapter. I wasn't even questioning why Coby was hearing the voices go out one by one ~~and this is why I do not read scanlations :P - at least all the mistakes in my understanding are my OWN!~~, just going with the flow and the way it was affecting him... oh.

I am so happy, and so sad, because SHANKS CAME but by that time it was TOO LATE for Luffy, who was being whisked away, and had failed in his rescue attempt and failed at the whole hat thing and... I don't know; Luffy pretty much NEEDS to be the best Pirate King the world has ever seen because he needs to FINALLY SUCCEED IN SOMETHING.

SAILING HAS NOT BEEN SMOOTH FOR LUFFY. AND NOW SHANKS KNOWS THAT HE LOST THE HAT.

I guess we don't know, really. I just got that impression from Helmeppo asking what's the matter, and Coby going "I don't know..." before explaining about the voices. It's like it's unexpected to him.

Shanks arrived, but too late for Luffy, and too late for Ace (and Shirohige). In time for Coby, though. ♥

Coby did something AWESOME, and he lives to tell about it. The hat is okay, and Shanks of all people has it. Luffy got away and Law will save his life. There is HOPE. *hugs*
