I have decided that I will not consider Ace to be truly, completely, irrevocably dead until there is a party and he is not in attendance.

I just can't tell if this makes me delusional, or cynical after the Pell thing (I was happy he survived! I just... stopped believing people actually died in One Piece. Except in flashbacks.), or just really really hopeful. O_o

I used to laugh at the fans who insisted "So-and-so is not dead! He's just... hiding. Under the table.... On his aunt's farm in New Zealand."


So. In the interests of doing this thoroughly:

-Ace isn't dead, he's just having a long-delayed fit of narcolepsy.

-His Vivre Card isn't gone, it's just really really small!

-He's only mostly dead.

-That wasn't blood on Luffy's hands, it was tomato juice.

-Ace didn't die, Whitebeard didn't get half his face burned off, and Luffy didn't fail: all of Impel Down and Marinford was just a shroom-induced hallucination. Luffy's still on Kuja.



Finally: I am mourning a mustache.

Oda, I would like my sanity back now. Thank you. jk, it's totally yours, only - make things gleeful again, okay?

I was browsing a Japanese fangirl blog, where she had written a lot of thought-out reasons why Ace shouldn't be really dead, and this one struck me, because I hadn't considered it before...

The title of chapter 574 is "The death of Portgas D Ace".
What is the last thing we hear in that chapter? It's the flashback to Rouge, saying "His name is Gol D Ace."

...looking at it that way, it almost seems like the death of Portgas D Ace isn't necessarily the death of Gol D Ace, because Portgas isn't his real name! (I'm not sure if I'm picturing something like naye's fic or something completely different, but. Food for thought! :D)

Long-delayed fit of narcolepsy YES. And that's what he felt coming on! And it fooled his vivre card too (it's still around but REALLY TINY) and all he needs is to hibernate for a while and he'll be FINE.

I'm with you in believing Ace is not dead!!!! We're in denial!!! I also read shayera's comment. That could be!

Ace is just... resting and yeah! Narcolepsy like you said! But not dead! he can't right? The vivre card is the size of a microscopic thing but it hasn't disappeared yet, no? Just...

Maybe he's dead *stab in the heart* but will return *it's raining sakura flowers*! Hope has grown now since reading more theories about Ace's possible revival after chapter 578.

I seriously have lost it since chapter 574. Ah, who needs sanity. >___>
