Um, so I just discovered this thing called The Gender Genie which, using some nonsensical equation, can determine the gender of the author of a passage, be it "fiction" "non-fiction" or "blog entry".
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
At first I only ran a few of my fic through the "genius" - and was very intrigued when the two Ace!fic were marked as "male passages", while the only fic I have ever written where I did not try to capture a character's voice, but instead deliberately tried to convey a strong woman's voice, was marked as "female".
So then I wondered if it somehow had more to do with the gender of the POV than the author...
and loled when my Real!Life blog-type entries were apparently "male"...all of them except the one where I squee incoherently about my laptop's Japanese-keyboard abilities. o_O
So this was interesting. And I went and ran all my fic through.
The verdict:
I have a confession to make. I did not write 12 of the fic posted to my journal - a man did. Who this man is, and how he posted to my journal, I have no idea, but the following fic were written by him:
Hearbeat (Ace POV)
The Things We Say (no POV, all dialogue - two male characters & one unknown)
Out of the Ocean (Ace POV)
Becoming Brothers (Luffy POV)
A Quiet Farewell (Luffy POV)
Farewell to the Harbour & Following the Sea Breeze (Zoro's POV is so manly, he even confused the math)
Unne (Deluded!(male)Sailor)
The Monster's Sister (Luffy POV)
Something Important (Ace POV)
Drinking Buddies (Shanks POV)
The Whole Story (omniscient POV, dialogue by various characters)
The fic that female!me did write:
The Entire Damned Family (Garp POV)
All four Luffy!win snippets (no POV/omnicient POV)
Lady of War (letter written by Luffy's mom)
The Price of Freedom (Boa Hancock POV)
Family Reunion (all three parts) (Ace POV)
Hyperactive Bouncing Rubber Home-Invaders (Ace POV)
Brother of the Year (Ace POV)
A New Friend (Oars POV)
Ship Without a Rudder (Marco POV)
Freedom and Family (Ace POV)
Future Kings (Ace POV)
When in the Jungle (Ace POV)
...I...have no idea what to make of this. It's interesting that the two series: Family Reunion and the Bink's Sake Death!fics (Farewell & Following) had consistent gender throughout.
It's...very interesting that my non-fiction writings as myself were apparently written by a man.
Um...lol. I knew before I started this that the "genius" was screwy - but this is really funny. And weird. Maybe next I'll run some Tolkien through. Or Rowling. Emily Bronte! XXPPP

Date: 2009-09-21 01:56 am (UTC)I ran my OP stuff and all except one of the Ace fics were female, while the ones with other characters it said were male. Uhh... XDDD
ps. I ran a few Emily Bronte passages after reading the end of your post, and she got two female and two male. Interestiiiing. XD The points were all pretty close, though.

Date: 2009-09-21 02:08 am (UTC)This is...funny. I am especially hugely entertained by the keywords. "And" is a female keyword? WTF!!! "What" and "who" are male but "where" and "when" are female? Where the hell did they come up with this shit!?! o_O

Date: 2009-09-21 02:16 am (UTC)I...have no idea. It seems rather arbitrary to me lol. I think they're probably full of shit. XD
