I mean, on the one hand there's all of the foreshadowing and "end of the era" and everybody wanting to kill him and the sword through his chest. And, also his archetype of the wise old powerful wizard mentor. Which. Has a high mortality rate :(
And it makes my storyteller instincts go: this, this would be a really painful, moving time for him to go out in a blaze of glory. And also it would throw all kinds of wrenches in the balance of the world, which could move the story along.
But then I think: Oda. Oda does unexpected subversive things.
Maybe Squard is evil/made a deal but was... reassuring Whitebeard that he'll protect his crew? Because of the debt?
Sengoku seemed pretty desperate to get the Den Den Mushi offline so I somehow think he wasn't in on this...

Pirate ally mutiny... would be bad but I'm less worried about it. Kind of. At the very least Oars has proven that some of the allies are as committed to bringing Ace home as his own crew. They really can't afford to lose the support of even one ship though @__@
